Tuungane Amani Kenya Foundation
“TAK Foundation” was established as a result of the post election violence in Kenya in 2007/2008. It started an initiative to restore peace in communities through setting up local mediation teams. This initiative is named ‘Tuungane Amani Kenya Foundation’ (come together for peace in Kenya). TAK Foundation, over time changed its work to help women and children live a dignified life and contributing positively to the society. Part of the programs became capacity building and mentoring of women groups, youth groups into table banking and business developing groups, education and skills training for children, youth and women, and social enterprises establishment to sustain the organization and its programs.
In the programs of TAK attention is also paid to Human Rights and Environmental care. These cross cutting themes are part of the program implementation and social enterprises implementation.
TAK implements programs with vulnerable communities with a focus on marginalized women and children. The pillars that TAK has formed are: Education through Tamalaki Education Centre, Capacity building and mentoring of women and youth through short skills trainings and Self Help Group Business training, including table banking, and mentoring of the groups. TAK also established a Tour company, Talk About Kenya Tours (TAK Tours) to provide income and provide exchange experiences and a water drilling company (TAK Water) where communities will be helped with affordable water solutions as well as commercial drilling for income. TAK Water also provides opportunities for training young marginalized people with passion for drilling to obtain knowledge and skills that would facilitate job creation and increase in finding water solutions in the rural areas.  In this TAK is fulfilling a social need in form of an enterprise. All projects and businesses are implemented with the value  of sustainability.

FAQS

When was TAK Foundation formed?

TAK Foundation was established as a result of the post-election violence in Kenya in 2008.  It started an initiative to restore peace in communities through setting up local mediation teams and so was named ‘Tuungane Amani Kenya Foundation’ (come together for peace in Kenya). TAK Foundation over time has changed its emphasis to help women and children live a dignified life and contribute positively to the society.

What does the TAK Foundation do?

TAK implements sustainable programmes in vulnerable communities with a focus on marginalized women and children.

TAK provides capacity building and mentoring of women and youth through short skills trainings and self help group business training, including table banking.  In 2015 TAK has trained and supported groups of unemployed, unskilled young people to run several sustainable businesses including a cyber-cafe, a bakery,  a restaurant and a welding and carpentry workshop.

TAK has three ongoing sustainable long term initatives:

In 2013 TAK established the Tamalaki School in Olchoro Onyore .  This was in response to a need expressed by the women of the community who said they lacked appropriate schooling in their village.  The school has thrived and is expanding rapidly with the help of sponsors funds.  90% of pupils at the school are Maasai, a group who have traditionally not had good school attendance records.

TAK runs a tour company, Talk About Kenya Tours (TAK Tours).  With twenty years of experience planning trips in Eastern Africa we can offer unique and competitively priced holidays and day trips in Kenya.  As part of our trips we have the option of organising visits to our school  and to our other projects which our clients have found an exciting part of their experience.

TAK has established a water drilling company (TAK Water) which provides training in mechanical and manual drilling for young marginalized people.  TAK water has developed into an expert team offering affordable water drilling options (manual and mechanical) in rural areas.

Where is TAK Foundation based?

TAK has a small office in Ongata Rongai near Nairobi.  We pride ourself in employing, mentoring and training young people and the make up of our small core administrative team reflects this.

Our initatiaves are directed across Kenya in areas where poverty levels are high and school enrolment levels are low.  Currently we have active projects in Kajiado County, Vihiga County, Nyanza and Nandi County.

How is TAK Foundation funded?

Currently 70% of funding comes from private donors and 30% from income generated by our own sustainable initiatives.

How can I help?

Get involved & help change lives! TAK foundation welcomes interested parties to help us reach our goals. We offer volunteer and intern positions at various levels, in our projects and businesses.  See volunteer section.

TAK Foundation needs funds to start new projects and to expand our sustainable initiatives to bring dignity and self-sufficiency in the communities that need it most.  Most of our donors provide specific funds for a project. We then show them how their funds are used and how the project is sustainable.  If you would like to help in this way please get in touch and email us.
